The Convicts - About

About

The Convicts is an as-yet unpublished novel, written in 2003 to 2006 by Colin Germano. The screenplay was written by Germano and Script Central's Scott Roberts in 2008 at the request of Allied Artists' then-president Robert Fitzpatrick. Arthur Seidelman was recruited to direct the feature film. Cast and crew were being assembled when Fitzpatrick fell ill in 2009.

After Fitzpatrick's death in 2010, the project was scrapped by Allied Artists and the script was shelved. Since then, Germano has completed a Bachelor of Film degree and re-written the screenplay specifically for Australian television as a mini-series.

Colin Germano is a veteran rock and roll singer with extensive real-life industry experience that spans more than three decades. His inspiration for the Convicts comes from a collection of extraordinary stories and events, gathered over many years on the road with various rock bands, most notably Bourbon Street.

The Convicts is a fictionalised parody of true-life rock n roll madness. The story incorporates struggle, collapse, heartache, drug and alcohol abuse, sexual misconduct, artistic brilliance, success, failure, camaraderie, justice and good old-fashioned rock n roll skulduggery. It has been described as a rock-mocumentary. Realism and believability are paramount in this candid depiction of rock n roll and those who dare to dance along its jagged edges.
